My name is Brian Bowles and along with Rob Ristroph, we have been working on furthering this work.
I have a background in programming. I’m unfortunately a doomer but that is never to be conflated with inaction. I am constantly annoyed by all the greenwashing that I see and the failure to significantly reduce the demand side.
The relative simplicity of the paint production drew me in. The other aspect is that I intitially did not understand heat transfer enough to even find this possible!
If this paint can be made at the same price point as other reflective white paint, then why not use it? Lets see if we can get it there.
My 3 main goals are to design a system that can produce more pigment than the method nighthawkinlight uses with a blender. Secondly to create a community where people can connect and further this technology wherever it may lead us. Lastly I want to try various experiments to see what the best formulation is so that we can extract as much cooling efficiency as possible out of this.
The difficult creating the pigment may be slowing down hobbyist experimentation. I am hoping that with such a community we can find a way to move this forward faster than a standard entrepreneurial approach.
In places without AC that have become a heat island, I suspect that this paint could mitigate the uncomfortableness of living in such conditions.
More about me - I was born and raised in Austin and have no plans on leaving. If you happen to be in Austin and would like to discuss the project in person - reach out. I’m what you might expect - long hair, chacos, and a penchant for cargo pants/shorts. Yes, I am that guy.
